There is something for children, for the elderly, and for everything in between. Especially with simple designs, many people can be satisfied with this style. Simple representations with clear lines can be very suitable for people with learning disabilities or autism.

Well-known artists have also been involved. Posters designed by Karel Appel, Mondrian, are also available in cards.

Diversity

A colorful card signifying the Dutch tulip season makes everyone happy. This feeling certainly applies to a falling cat that lands on its feet. A great card for someone who is dealing with a difficult situation, it will bring joy. Lightness is a common aspect when it comes to the diversity of the posters. Animals are common, especially cats, these are often depicted in black or white. Or maybe two cats as companions, one white, the other black and white striped. There is even a poster of a cat advertising a detergent, particularly attractive. Or a cat that is sleeping in a bed like a human being, children love it. Also, two cats looking at something, made by a French illustrator in a French style, for adults, this is a feast for the eyes. Like other posters, it is an advertisement for a book or a movie, so it has a whole story to it. Each poster has a hidden meaning. For some, it is clear what it refers to, but for others, it is necessary to look further. Karel Appel has also depicted a colorful cat in his own way. So there is plenty on offer for cat lovers.

Typically Dutch

There are certainly more than enough of them! Boys/girls in traditional costume, posters with the tricolor, clogs, with the dunes and the sea, there is much more. There are many cards of this kind, that can make older people and younger ones happy. After all, the basis of our Dutch identity and heritage cannot be erased. That is why these images are so significant. A very good example is the Jan Lavies poster, the beach with a Dutch flag, waving in the wind, and 'Holland' written on the beach with shells, which is simple and special at the same time. This was once intended as an advertisement for the VVV. Another nice reference to the Dutch past is the van Gaspel poster, advertising Hynde's bicycles, which were then called "bicycles". For old and young Dutch people, they are very suitable to give and receive.

International

There are also German posters. A good example is that of Hans Handschin, with an advertisement for Tannerin, the lid is off the box, and a cat sees its own reflection in it. Or the Milton Glaser poster of the city of New York. A cat in the famous Central Park, cunningly peeking up. There are also French posters, completely in style, really a representation of the elite, such as that of Frank Brangwyn, an advertisement for an art exhibition. A woman in a then-modern outfit, entirely in the French style, shows an interest in this. A combination of the Netherlands and abroad can be found in an advertisement for a Dutch airline that flies over Asia. 

Roots

There are posters of products that no longer exist, or are no longer produced by that brand. But there are also plenty of postcards of posters that still exist, a nice memory. The Alfa Romeo, for example, in modern design for the time, viewed by two women. The representation consists of mosaic, in various colors. There is another image of this car, in the Italian style. All perfect for fun and attractive postcards.

Subjects

Bicycles, cars, airplanes, museums, exhibitions, books, animals, circuses, food such as ice cream, all themes are covered in the posters and therefore also in the postcards. That's how versatile the past is when it comes to images. That is why it is worthwhile to delve into the postcards with the posters from the past and send them for all kinds of reasons. The styles vary widely, from simple to complex, with real French elitist renderings to futuristic, even for that time - which makes it even more interesting! Especially when it comes to well-known artists, it is enlightening to view them in a contemporary context.
