Nature
This is of course the best context for a bird, although there are other cards with birds without that context, but now we go for this category, this one is also mainly about photos, although there are also paintings.
“De Reiger”, by Michael H. Eisenblatter, is a beautiful card. The heron sits on the jetty and the reed is opposite of it, a more classic image like this is almost impossible. A singing nightingale on a tree branch, it is also so recognizable and will never be boring. This one was made by Ron Entius.
A black and white photo by Bonnie Josephson shows a bird flying high in the sky, far above the water. The bridge, the houses and the tree, which are below and in front of it. The bird is black, in fact it seems to play a supporting role in the context. Two swans on the Wadden island of Texel, owned by Theo Timmer, one swan looks at the water and the mill in the distance, the other swan looks at its counterpart, a cozy scene.
Bart Rouwen has produced a very special photo of a bird in nature. In the forest, it could hardly be better. What makes the photo special is that a human is depicted horizontally, with a bird on his hand. Really very original, that's what makes it so special.
Also beautiful is the photo with two coots, one is brooding on the nest, the other coot is handing a fish. This photo is a bit vaguer, which of course must have been the intention. Paul van Galen's photo is almost exclusively white, yet you can clearly distinguish the cygnets that fly. The landscape appears to be a winter landscape.
The photo entitled 'Together', by Henk P. Drost, shows a photo of the backside of two ducks taking a dive in search of food. This card can be great for Valentine's Day, as a congratulation to a couple living together or getting married. A painting by MA Koekoek shows a ditch in a meadow, with all kinds of birds, which is why it is also called 'water and meadow birds'.
Unmistakably beautiful and sunny, although you don't see the sun, but a clear blue sky with white birds in it, with beautiful spread wings.
Another photo that shows the natural context is by Martin Kers, in Ellewoutsdijk, Zeeland. A meadow with sheep and above it a clear blue sky with white birds, which are somewhat blurred and can therefore also be seen as clouds. There are more photos of birds in Zeeland, from the same photographer.
Classic
A painting of Tibaut Regters, it dates from the 18th century, is a girl / woman who is dressed in a very classic way, with a wide crinoline. She holds a bird in her hand, it appears to be a parakeet.
There is also a painting of the 17th century, Mr. D'Hondecoeter called 'Gevogelte'. There are indeed all kinds of birds on it, so that it is a colorful whole in all respects, also thanks to the colors.
More classic cards include ducks walking around with a row of ducklings, one seen from the front, like Mike Hollist's, but also one from the back, the mother duck with the chicks next to it. It's funny to see the chicks from behind.
What should certainly not be missing is the stork, with a bundle of baby in the beak. Great as a congratulation on a birth. There is also a breeding stork, which you can send as a congratulation on a pregnancy.
A black and white picture of Chris le Roy, of two thrushes, is also a really nice card. Also suitable for people who have something to celebrate when it comes to relationships. There are also pictures of owls, which are unmistakably associated with wisdom.
Another classic card, is the picture of the goose, on a goose card. Great for people who do (or don't) like this game.
Modern
Even though Otto van Rees is a painter of the 20th century, this painting can be considered modern because of its shapes and colors. There are people on it and a large bird above it, a heron or stork. It is made in a puzzle-like way.
A very colorful card, by Christina Dorjee, of nine pigeons, all with a different color and all in a different box, also with their 'own' color. Modern or classic, you can call Carmen Berck's menu both. Two birds, depicted in bright colors, surrounded by the moon and stars, but also with candles. This card can perfectly serve as a Christmas card. This also applies to the card with Santa Claus on it, where two little birds are looking at him on the tree branch.
Karel Appel has also made various images of birds, such as 'figuur met vogel ' and 'Kleine Chickadee'. Also very colorful photos of Jacinta Heijmans, with birds and wheels underneath, in the same colors, because this card is about 'Carnival'.
There are many more cards with birds, there are too many to mention and describe. So let yourself be carried away in this beautiful world of Art Unlimited.
